I was born and raised in Winton-Salem, NC. I was fortunate to grow up in a loving, Christian home. From an early age, the gospel was presented to me at home, at our Christian school, and especially at church. At the age of 11, I realized my need for a Savior and accepted Jesus. It wasn’t until the age of 18 that I completely surrendered my life to him, wherever he decided to send me. It was at a summer camp’s campfire service that I surrendered to the Lord. Little did I know how God loves to honor those requests. 🙂
During the summer of my senior year, I went on my first missions trip with my youth group to the Dominican Republic. My heart was stirred and excited for overseas missions. I truly believe God was already preparing my heart for what he was calling me to do full-time, but I was a bit stubborn.
After high school, I attended Word of Life Bible Institute in Hudson, FL to learn more about God’s Word and how to share with others. I was privileged to be thrown right into ministry and fell in love with it. I knew God was calling me into full-time ministry of some sort, but I just wasn’t sure where or what he was calling me to do.
From an early age, I always had a desire to teach. My teachers in elementary school had such a huge impact on me. I decided to attend Piedmont International University and High Point University to obtain a bachelors degree from both schools in Elementary Education. I graduated in May 2008.
I took my second missions trip to Morocco, Africa the summer of 2009, and I knew at that time that God was calling me into full-time missionary service as a teacher.
I received my first teaching job at Welcome Elementary August 2008 and taught there for four years before moving to Shelby, NC. David and I were married on December 12, 2009.
During those few years, David and I prayed, begging God to allow us to get overseas full-time. There were days it seemed almost impossible, but we continued to pursue what God had laid on our hearts many years before. We were heavily involved in ministry, where our hearts were, and waited patiently on the Lord. I was privileged to lead a Ladies’ Bible study in our home, be a counselor at Salem Pregnancy Center, sing at church, and work alongside my husband in other ministries at our local church.
We took a huge step of faith in August 2012 when we moved to Shelby, NC for David to work at Compass Aviation. David needed more experience in aviation. I took a job at Graham Elementary teaching kindergarten and eventually moved back to third grade.
Currently, I am in the final months of my teaching job at Graham Elementary as we are beginning our full-time support raising. We are excited to be on this journey! We are ready and anticipating the day we move to Honduras to fulfill God’s calling on our lives.
